At least one coalition political party does not agree with scrapping the special levy for regulated entities.
The information about the possibility to scrap the special levy in regulated sectors by the MPs was presented at the last Parliament’s session in 2018. The Act on Special Levy has been in place since September 2012 when the government promised companies that it would only be a temporary solution to increase the budget’s revenues. Despite Slovakia’s balanced budget this year, companies operating in the energy, insurance, public health insurance, electronic communication, pharmacy, postal services and transport are likely to continue paying the special levy. There is no consensus in the ruling coalition to scrap the levy although the Ministry of Finance led by Smer-SD’s nominees is already working on the legislation change. At least, the Slovak National Party (SNS) will not agree with lifting the special levy. The second coalition party Most-HID has not replied to the questions.
