Miroslav Obert, chairman of SEPS says that the power transmission line between Velke Kapusany in Slovakia and Mukachevo in Ukraine may present a significant trade link between Europe and Ukraine in the future.
Slovakia together with Ukraine will modernize the power transmission line between Velke Kapusany in Slovakia and Mukachevo in Ukraine. The Slovak Electricity Transmission System (SEPS) and the company Ukrenergo have already signed a memorandum on the plan to increase the transmission capacity between the power grids of the Slovak Republic and Ukraine. „The power line is one of the bottlenecks of the interconnected European electricity transmission system. In the future, this may be a significant trade link between Europe and Ukraine regarding the electricity market. Without this power line, the possibility of electricity transit via the transmission system of the Slovak Republic could be greatly curbed, and electricity exports from Slovakia could be restricted,“ Miroslav Obert, chairman of SEPS board, said. According to SEPS, with regard to its age the Slovak section of the power line will require, in the period up to approximately 2030, the adoption of a decision on specific measures for its modernization, including increasing transmission capacity.
