BRATISLAVA, November 8, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia’s strongest opposition party SMER-SD would garner fewer votes if the parliamentary elections were held at the end of September and in early October. While according to a survey that monitored potential outcome at the end of August and in early September, SMER would get 40 percent, it was 36.2 percent in the latest survey. The junior ruling coalition party MOST-HID reported the strongest increase in popularity among respondents, jumping from 4.3 to 8 percent, based on a public opinion poll carried out by MEDIAN SK from September 13 to October 10. MEDIAN SK interviewed 1,028 respondents from 18 to 79 years of age. Respondents were asked to answer the question: “If the parliamentary elections were held tomorrow, would you participate in the ballot? A total of 35.3 percent of respondents confirmed that they would definitely participate in the elections, and 25.5 percent said that they were more decided to go than to stay away from the elections. Eight percent said they rather would not cast their ballot, 27.6 percent would certainly ignore the elections and 3.6 percent were undecided.
The largest party in government, SDKU-DS, reported a slight slip in popularity versus the previous month, from 17.9 to 17.4 percent. The support for KDH weakened from 11.5 to 10.6 percent and SaS lost 0.2 percentage points to 10.3 percent. The number of SNS supporters also dropped from 7.6 percent to 6.3. HZDS and SMK, which did not make it to the parliament in June’s elections, improved in the latest survey, from 2.5 to 3.8 percent and from 1.9 to 3 percent respectively. Addressed respondents answered the following question: “If you decided to cast your ballot, which party or movement would you vote for?”
