SMER Tops Popularity Chart, MOST-HID Skyrockets in July

BRATISLAVA, August 16, (WEBNOVINY) – The voters‘ support for the coalition party MOST-HID nearly doubled over July to 8.6 percent from June’s 4.9 percent. Based on a poll carried out by MEDIAN.SK, the party of Bela Bugar was the fourth most popular party on the Slovak political landscape in the seventh month of this year. The strongest opposition party SMER-SD remains atop the chart with 42.7 percent, which was 2.5 percentage points less from June. The strongest coalition party SDKU-DS is 2.6 percentage points stronger having 16.6 percent in July. Christian Democrats (KDH) have 9.8 percent of the vote, which was a decline from 10.6 percent in June. SaS saw a modest decline from June’s 9.3 percent to 8.2 percent. SNS would collect 6.5 percent which is a tiny improvement from 6.3 percent in June. SMK (2.5 percent), LS-HZDS (2.2 percent) and SDL (0.2 percent) would not make it to the parliament, MEDIAN.SK Director Jindrich Bardon informed about the survey outcome.

MEDIAN.SK surveyed 1,113 respondents aged 18-79 from June 20 to July 17 in random sampling. The respondents were asked to answer the question: “Would you cast your vote if the parliamentary elections were held tomorrow?” A total of 35.9 percent would definitely vote, 26 percent were more inclined to cast the ballot, 8.9 percent were more inclined to ignore it and 25.9 percent would certainly refrain from voting. Some 3.3 percent were undecided. They were also asked which party or movement they would vote for in case they came to a polling station.
