BRATISLAVA, July 31, (WEBNOVINY) – In the next few years, economic migration to Slovakia cannot be based on a passive management of admission of foreigners who decide to come to the country. “On the contrary, management of economic migration has to firmly respond to challenges of the global competition for talents, in particular by actively searching for them and creating conditions for their arrival to Slovakia,” reads the draft Migration Policy until 2020. The material was elaborated by the Interior Ministry and has already been reviewed by individual departments. According to the document’s authors, creating an active environment for foreigners, who are much needed for the development of Slovak economy, is essential in economic migration.
Submitters of the material point out that a long-term negative demographic development in Slovakia shows that the Slovak labor market as well as the social security system are greatly dependent on an influx of human resources from abroad. It is therefore important to focus on accelerating the process of issuing visas and residence permits. This should be achieved via a better coordination of the work of embassies and the Foreign Police with the use of ICT, as well as improving language skills of staff working at Foreign Police departments, directly dealing with foreigners.
The material further mentions defining precise rules for admitting qualified and highly qualified immigrants. Analyses of the needs of the national economy and economic benefits of individual groups of economic migrants should be carried out regularly, based on which adoption of regulatory and control mechanisms in order to achieve the required balance in economic migration should be considered.
