BRATISLAVA, September 8, (WEBNOVINY) — On his first ever visit to Cambodia, Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic met with all senior constitutional officials of this country, informed his spokesman Marek Trubac. After King of Cambodia Norodom Sihamoni received him on the first day of his official visit to the Asian country, Gasparovic met with Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samri, Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Thamma Pothisal Chea Sim and Prime Minister Hun Sen. Gasparovic and Cambodian top representatives focused on efforts to support political and economic cooperation and trade between the countries as these do not use the existing potential in these spheres.
„I believe that my visit, during which also Slovak businessmen accompany me, will create new opportunities for development of mutual economic cooperation and trade,“ said Gasparovic when speaking with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The Slovak head of state said that both countries have very good cooperation within the United Nations and other international institutions.
Both states could continue the tradition from the era of former Czechoslovakia in education and exchange of students, suggests Gasparovic. „We would like to utilize potential; of former Cambodian graduates from Slovak universities who could contribute to intensification of economic ties between our countries,“ he said.
Within his Asian tour on which he embarked last Wednesday, Gasparovic has already visited China, specifically Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macau. The main topic on the agenda of talks with local governments was political and economic cooperation, the latter specifically in logistics, electronics, chemical and electrical-engineering industries, tourism and the spa sector.
