Slovak Industry Continues to Grow Fast

BRATISLAVA, August 9, (WEBNOVINY) — The growth rate of industrial output in Slovakia decelerated in June. According to the data of the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, the indicator increased 23.5 percent in annual terms in June, thus maintaining relatively stable dynamics this year. In May, the growth of industrial output reached nearly 29 percent, which was the strongest growth reported this year. Development of the indicator in the sixth month was influenced by 24.4-percent growth in supplies of electric energy, gas, steam and cooled air, a 24 percent increase in industrial manufacturing, and a 0.6 percent decline in mining and extraction of mineral raw materials.

With the exception of the production of electronic equipment which decreased 4.9 percent y/y and the production of coke and refined crude oil products with a 0.4 percent fall, all other industrial sectors reported growth in production. Production of computers, electronic and optical devices saw the steepest improvement of 89.5 percent. The Statistics Office further reported a 52.1 percent increase in production of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere, a 24.4 percent growth in supplies of electricity, natural gas, steam and cool air, 21.1 percent rise in production of transport means, and a 20.9 percent jump in the production of metals and metallic structures except for machinery and equipment.

Production of durable goods jumped 82.2 percent in annual terms. Production of capital goods increased 28.8 percent, production related to the energy sector surged 17.5 percent and output of goods for intermediate consumption went up 14.3 percent. Production of short-term goods swelled 5.5 percent. After taking seasonal influences into account, industrial output in June remained at the May level.
