BRATISLAVA, December 28, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic expects that the upcoming year will be a year of consolidation in both Slovakia and the EU and will bring revival of the job market, too. The head of state believes that consolidation in Slovakia will install a balance between seeking and creation of new jobs. Though already this year brought sings of the country’s stabilization after the big crisis, the country still failed to create a labor environment that would facilitate reducing unemployment. “I think this will be the most crucial task,” the president said in an interview for SITA.
The head of state hopes that the upcoming year will bring consolidation also to the eurozone and will see the euro recovering. “The euro is a strong currency and I believe that if the euro collapses, Slovakia’s economy would cope with it with great difficulties, and not only Slovakia. It would be a serious signal to perhaps an even a bigger crisis than the previous one. Therefore, I firmly believe that the year of 2011 will be a year of consolidation also regarding the eurozone”, he said. According to Gasparovic, „we will have to politically very thoughtfully and responsibly think about what else the EU membership might bring.“
The development on the Slovak political scene will depend on how the current government will be able to fulfill its program goals through the adopted state budget. He underscored that it will be of great importance if the budget, which was adopted in order to fulfill the ruling coalition’s visions, mainly regarding the social situation of the citizens, will be positive or it will turn out that some adopted decisions will not have consolidation and positive effects but negative impacts. The state budget believes Gasparovic does not resolve problems systematically but rather concentrates on urgent problems, mainly the general government deficit. However, the president thinks that Slovak citizens are very patient and he expects they will understand that all of us together will have to do their utmost and even give up on their plans in order that Slovakia is again labeled a very prospective country.
