BRATISLAVA, August 27, (WEBNOVINY) – Defense Minister Lubomir Galko on Saturday ceremonially opened the International Air Fest – SIAF 2011 at the airport in Sliac. The most significant aviation event in Slovakia is taking place at the military airport for the first time. “Flying and aviation are naturally associated with military as such and, thus, also with our armed forces. This wonderful event will feature static as well as dynamic presentation of aviation equipment, daily used by our professional military personnel,” the minister announced. Galko reminded that the International Air Fest is an opportunity for pilots from other European countries, Turkey and the United States to exhibit their flying skills. “We’ll also see the equipment of the NATO,” he noted.
The International Air Fest – SIAF 2011 is held at the stage and center of the 1944 Slovak National Uprising. Galko stated that freedom and democracy claimed then many lives and the fight meant a lot of suffering and family as well as personal tragedies. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to defend, honor and fight for these values even at the present time of peace, the minister announced in his speech.
