Wages in Slovakia Grew Most in ICT in October

BRATISLAVA, December 9, (WEBNOVINY) — The average nominal monthly wage in October went up the most in information and communication technologies, by 20.7 percent y/y. Based on data released by the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, the average nominal monthly wage in the tenth month also increased in construction sector (+4.2 percent), selected market services (+4.1 percent), industry (+3.7 percent), retail, transport and storage (+2 percent), and accommodation (+0.4 percent). The nominal wage dwindled 0.6 percent in sale and repairs of motor vehicles and 0.5 percent in wholesale sector. Stagnation was reported with pubs and restaurants. The average real monthly wage in October increased on the previous year only in the IT sector, namely by 15.6 percent.

Employees in information and communication technologies earned the most on average in the January- October period, i.e., EUR 1.694. Industry paid EUR 806, selected market services EUR 801, wholesale sector EUR 731, sale and repairs of motor vehicles EUR 714, transportation and storage EUR 705, building industry EUR 591, accommodation EUR 550, retail sector EUR 546 and pubs and restaurants EUR 357 on average.

Compared with the same period a year ago, the average monthly wage grew the most in the IT sector (+10.6 percent). In selected market services, the growth represented 4.5 percent, in construction 4.4 percent and in industry 4.1 percent. The average real wage for the ten months of the year grew the most in the IT sector (+6.6 percent), followed by selected market services (+0.7 percent), construction (+0.6 percent) and industry (+0.3 percent). The real wage dropped in the sector of pubs and restaurants (-3.7 percent), wholesale (-3.3 percent), accommodation (-3.2 percent). A 2.6-percent decline was reported in the sectors of distribution and repairs of motor vehicles, retail, and transportation and storage.
