NOVA DEDINKA, September 18, (WEBNOVINY)- Prime Minister Iveta Radicova believes that the most important question voters in Slovakia are to answer in the Saturday’s six-question referendum is that pertaining to the cancellation of deputy immunity from prosecution The prime minister told journalists before she cast her ballot that mainly opposition members of parliament have a serious problem with curbing immunity. “So, if the citizens helped up in this way, it would be great,” she stated.
Radicova said that the voter turnout itself, the number of voters regardless to whether it will be an absolute majority or not is binding for her. The prime minister said that most referendum questions are directly in the hands of parliamentary deputies and the coalition and if political consensus is achieved there is a chance to push them through. However, if even the will of citizens supports the politicians, it will give them strength, she underscored. .
When asked whether she was not sorry to hear that some coalition politicians will not take part in the referendum she said that they have the right to decide whether the referendum is important for them, similarly to the citizens. However, as for her she finds participation in the matters of public concern binding. ”Moreover, as I have submitted the bill on curbing immunity, I want to say also in the referendum “Yes, it is necessary to curtail immunity”, the prime minister said.
