Sulik Says EU Funds Could be Used to Finance Bailout Fund

BRATISLAVA, March 25, (WEBNOVINY) – Speaker of Parliament and leader of the liberal party SaS Richard Sulik announced on Friday that Slovakia could use money from the EU funds for its contribution to the new European Stabilization Mechanism. “This question should be at least analyzed. We are not able to draw this money fully while it is a source of huge corruption and spoils the business environment. So let’s use it there,” Sulik told journalists. He admitted that this option might be absolute nonsense or a good idea but anyway, this idea should be examined. Slovakia should seek ways to contribute to the bailout fund because the sum it is expected to provide represents EUR 600 million, a sum that could cover, for instance, a perfectly done payroll levy reform.

The coalition party SaS insists on its reservations towards the establishment of the euro zone’s new stabilization mechanism. SaS leader Richard Sulik said however that the party is not seeking to block the “whole Europe” but it wants to search for solutions. Sulik admitted at news conference on Friday that if certain changes are implemented compared with the originally proposed mechanism of the so-called permanent bailout fund then also the party will come to a “definitive stance.” “We do not have any conditions at the moment but we have reservations,” stated Sulik.
