Statistics Office Reports on Average Wages in May

BRATISLAVA, July 11, (WEBNOVINY) – A report of the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic released on Monday shows that the highest average nominal monthly wage in the first five months of this year was in the information and communication sector at 1,614 euros. The average nominal monthly wage in selected market services was 794 euros, 791 euros in industry and in wholesale 730 euros. The average nominal monthly wage in the distribution and repairs of motor vehicles represented 715 euros, in transport and storage 690 euros, in construction 571 euros, in accommodation 548 euros, in the retail sector 541 euros, and in restaurants and pubs 357 euros.

Compared with the same period one year ago, the wage rose most in selected market services by 5.6 percent. In the ICT sector the wage increased by 5.2 percent, in construction by 4.4 percent, in industry by 3.9 percent, and in the distribution and repairs of motor vehicles by 2.1 percent. The retail sector saw a growth in the wage of 1.5 percent, wholesale of 1.1 percent, accommodation of 0.9 percent, and transport and storage of 0.4 percent. The average nominal wage did not change in pubs and restaurants.

On average for the first five months of this year, the real monthly wage in selected market services grew by two percent and in information and communication activities by 1.6 percent. On the other hand, real wages dropped in restaurants and pubs by 3.4 percent, in transport and storage by 3 percent, in accommodation by 2.5 percent, in the wholesale sector by 2.3 percent, in retail by 1.9 percent, and in distribution and repairs of motor vehicles by 1.4 percent.

In May alone, the average nominal monthly wage rose in selected market services by 7.8 percent y/y, in industry by 7.6 percent, in the ICT sector by 5.7 percent, in construction 3.2 percent, in transport and storage 1.4 percent.

The real monthly wage in May grew the most in selected market services by 3.7 percent. In industry it rose 3.5 percent and in the ICT sector 1.6 percent. The real wage dropped in wholesale by 3.6 percent, in restaurants and pubs by 3.3 percent, in accommodation by 3.2 percent and in retail by 3 percent.
