BRATISLAVA, May 27, (WEBNOVINY) — The opposition SNS party is accusing Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic (KDH) of abusing the department and he should therefore be dismissed. First deputy party leader Andrej Danko points out to a contract that the ministry has recently signed on modernization of the currently centralized wiretapping system. According to Danko, the contract will enable that the police will not be controlled by anyone in eavesdropping. As of January, the police is to have an independent access to the wiretapping system, completely separate from intelligence services. Danko claims that this is the minister’s own initiative, to which his coalition partners object, too. “It is absolutely unacceptable if information is concentrated at the interior minister’s office so that he can edit the material as needed for instance for criminal proceedings,” Danko stated. He added that “minister Lipsic has long ago clearly displayed that he is able to misuse police information for his own benefit, and probably wants to continue”.
The SNS deputy leader went on to say that the party has for long been pointing attention to Lipsic’s ambition to centralize power in his hands, while now it concerns wiretapping equipment. “Lipsic hopes that thanks to alleged modernization of the wiretapping system, they will be able to monitor also Skype or multimedia messages, as well as touch screen cell phones. According to the SNS, this is an absolute interference into the citizens’ privacy and fulfillment of ambitions of Mr. Lipsic and Police President Spisiak to become absolute rulers over information – and by this step and without control, they can manage this, not forgetting the legislative draft of penal codes that are to be debated in Parliament in June that would enable the use of recordings in multiple criminal proceedings,” Danko wrote. He added that Lipsic’s ambition is to become the KDH leader and an absolute expert on wiretapping information.
The Interior Ministry will not comment on the allegations of the SNS party, stated the ministry’s spokesman Gabor Grendel.
