BRATISLAVA, July 22, (WEBNOVINY) — If parliamentary elections in Slovakia were held in early July, the opposition SMER-SD would be the winner with 42 percent. The strongest party in the new ruling coalition SDKU-DS would garner 14.7 percent. Its partner the SaS led by Richard Sulik would receive 12.3 percent and occupy the third place based on a public opinion poll of political preferences carried out by Focus agency between July 7 and 13. The 1,033 respondents selected as a representative sample were asked which party from the provided list would they support if parliamentary elections were held the following weekend, Martin Slosiarik for Focus told SITA news agency.
While 15.6 percent of those polled said they would not participate in the elections, 16.4 percent could not answer the question. The remaining 68 percent of these potential voters distributed their preferences among political entities.
The survey suggests that all parties represented in the new parliament based on the results of the June 12 elections would still make it to the parliament if the elections were held in July. The ruling coalition members, the KDH, would win nine percent of votes and MOST-HID 7.2 percent. The opposition SNS party would end up with 6.2 percent. The SMK, LS-HZDS, and SDL would not reach the required five-percent threshold in order to win deputy seats.
