SMER-SD Would Fill Half of Parliamentary Seats, Survey Shows

BRATISLAVA, January 9, (WEBNOVINY) — A telephone survey conducted on 1,226 respondents between December 15 and December 23, 2011 by the agency Polis Slovakia, the opposition SMER-SD would have 75 MPs in the 150-member Slovak Parliament after the elections. Upon being asked whom they plan to vote in the early election on March 10, 2012, 40.2 percent voters answered SMER-SD. Center-right SDKU-DS would be the second most successful party with 9.5 percent votes (18 deputies) followed by Christian-Democrats KDH with 8.7 percent (16 deputies). Both Neo-liberal SaS and liberal MOST-HID would acquire 15 seats with 8.3 and 8.1 percent respectively. Nationalist SNS would have 11 deputies with 5.7 percent.

Igor Matovic’s Ordinary People and Independent Personalities would not make it into the parliament, gaining only 4.1 percent votes. LS-HZDS, SMK, newly established 99 Percent – Civic Vote, SDL and KSS would not make it into the parliament either, but would all have more than 1 percent of votes. Only 49.7 percent of the asked plan to vote in the elections.
