Slovakia is Flooded by Used Cars

BRATISLAVA, July 14, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia is witnessing a deluge of used cars from abroad. As the Automotive Industry Association of the Slovak Republic reported, motorists imported nearly 30,000 used cars in the first half of this year, up some 1 percent in annualized terms.

The average age of individually imported second hand cars increased to 7.57 years after the first two quarters of this year from 7.48 years achieved in Q1. More than 57 percent of these vehicles were older than 5 years and nearly 1,300 of them have been in use for more than fifteen years. The association warned that the aging of the car fleet may soon be accompanied by higher environmental burden of clunkers.

Volkswagen had the biggest share of the imported vehicles (nearly 15 percent), followed by Skoda, Ford, BMW, Peugeot, Audi, Renault, Fiat, Opel, Mercedez-Benz, Citroen and Seat. The association also registered nearly 1,600 imported trucks and some 170 buses in the observed period.
