Slovak Gross Foreign Debt in Grew in September

BRATISLAVA, December 31, (WEBNOVINY) — Preliminary data of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) show that gross foreign debt of Slovakia in September grew in monthly terms by USD 6.562 billion and reached USD 66.685 billion at the end of the month. Despite this increase in debt compared to August, gross external debt still remained lower year-on-year by USD 1.66 billion.

All monitored sectors contributed to the growth of the debt in September. Foreign debt of the central bank increased the most, by about USD 1.828 billion to USD 20.579 billion. Foreign liabilities of the banking sector rose by USD 1.448 billion to USD 9.569 billion and of the government by USD 1.153 billion to USD 11.581 billion. The foreign debt in other monitored sectors grew by USD 1.074 billion to USD 10.624 billion, and intercompany loans from direct investments by USD 1.059 billion.

In a year-on year comparison, the foreign debt of commercial banks grew most, increasing by USD 1.982 billion. Compared to September of 2009, foreign liabilities of the government increased by USD 493.2 million. Other sectors recorded a decline in external debt. The most significant decline was of the foreign debt of the central bank, by about USD 3.171 billion. Debts of the other sectors covered fell by USD 103 million and the debt in intercompany lending from direct investment dropped by USD 862.1 million.
