Opposition SMER Could Form a Government by Itself

BRATISLAVA, May 6, (WEBNOVINY) — The opposition SMER-SD party led by Robert Fico would win more deputy mandates in potential parliamentary elections than all the current ruling coalition members SDKU-DS, KDH, SaS and MOST-HID combined. SMER-SD would win 81 seats in the parliament and the coalition members a total of 69 seats. This stems from results of a telephone survey carried out by Polis Slovakia in cooperation with SITA news agency between April 30 and May 3 on a sample of 865 adult respondents. The respondents answered a question which political party they would support if parliamentary elections were held the coming weekend. 59 percent of those polled said they would cast their votes in the elections.

The strongest opposition party SMER-SD would win 44.5 percent of the vote, SDKU-DS 18.5 percent, MOST-HID 7.2 percent and KDH 6.6 percent. The liberal party SaS would get six percent. Based on the poll results, SNS would not make it to the parliament with just 4.8 percent, and OKS would get 1.1 percent.
