BRATISLAVA, October 5, (WEBNOVINY) — In the first one-hundred days in office, Culture Minister Daniel Krajcer (SaS) devoted attention to reviewing contracts, adopting a new approach to protection of cultural heritage, and preparing of a number of changes to laws. In addition to the most followed results of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism so far, which is the revision to the State Language Law, the ministry concentrated on reviewing existing contracts. “We published all contracts in the culture department on the Internet. There are 1,619 of them, which is an enormous piece of work,” Krajcer said in an interview for SITA news agency.

Among the priorities of the new culture minister is to do as much as possible for the recovery of cultural heritage. In line with the new competency law, the culture ministry took over the agenda of tourism from the Transport Ministry. Based on an agreement with the transport minister, Krajcer will use funds that have not been used up for support of tourism to restoration of cultural heritage. “I believe that Slovakia is incredibly rich in cultural memorials, whereas as much as forty percent are in a catastrophic condition,” he said.

The minister accepted a proposal of the Slovak Bishops’ Conference to support an event on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of arrival of missionaries of Christianity, Constantine and Methodius, to the present territory of Slovakia. Another priority, the project of Kosice-European Capital of Culture 2013 will receive support from the ministry, too.

Minister Krajcer further noted that a number of legislative changes are under preparation. A discussion has been open and working groups are formed for the prepared changes in public-service media. Also, the much-debated press law should be amended in the future, the minister concluded.
