BRATISLAVA, May 20 , (WEBNOVINY) — Independent deputy Igor Matovic, who leads the initiative Ordinary People in the SaS faction refused to present his two draft amendments to the Slovak Constitutions that were on the agenda of the parliamentary session on Friday. He said he did not want to present the drafts to a handful of deputies present. There were about ten deputies present in the assembly hall on Friday afternoon. Matovic and his three colleagues from Ordinary People want to reduce the number of parliamentary deputies from 150 to 79. They also propose canceling immunity from prosecution of deputies as well as judges.

“It is a sort of an expression of civic disobedience if a parliamentary deputy forces participation of all deputies in the debate on his proposal”, reacted KDH deputy Julius Brocka. He suggested that Matovic return to the hall and present the drafts. Milan Hort (SDKU-DS), presiding over the session, could not initiate a vote on Brocka’s proposal, as the plenum was not quorate. Matovic’s drafts will be debated at the end of the current, eighteenth parliamentary session.

The session ended on Friday with a draft amendment on the law on residence of foreigners in Slovakia from the workroom of Ludovit Kanik (SDKU-DS) and Martin Chren (SaS). No voting was scheduled for Friday. The session will continue on Tuesday morning.
