BRATISLAVA, August 13, (WEBNOVINY) — The annual growth rate of consumer prices in Slovakia in July accelerated moderately compared with June. According to the Statistics Office, consumer prices in July grew by 1.1 percent year-on-year while in June their growth was 1 percent. On average for seven months of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009, consumer prices grew by 0.9 percent. Compared with the previous month consumer prices in July increased by 0.1 percentage point.
In a year-on-year comparison, prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased 6.8 percent, in education by 4.3 percent, by 3.7 percent for health care, and food and soft drinks by 3.1 percent. Prices in the group of miscellaneous goods and services increased by 2 percent, in hotels, cafes and restaurants by 1.2 percent, recreation and culture 0,7 percent, postal and telecommunication services by 0.3 percent. Prices of furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 3.5 percent, clothing and footwear by 1.1 percent, transport 0.8 percent, for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.3 percent .
Consumer prices in July compared to June increased in total by 0.1 percentage point. Prices of recreation and culture increased by 0.5 percent from June, food and soft drinks, health care equally by 0.3 percent. Prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, transport, hotels, cafes and restaurants, miscellaneous goods and services increased at the same rate of 0.1 percent. Prices decreased from June of furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.3 percent, clothing and footwear by 0.2 percent. Prices remained at the level of June of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, also postal and telecommunications services and education.
Core inflation, which monitors consumer prices, excluding regulated prices and administrative interventions in the area of taxes, reached 1.4 percent. In the previous month core inflation was 1.1 percent. Net inflation, which disregards development of food prices, was 0.7 percent in July, while in June it was 0.9 percent.
