Flood-Prevention Contribution Helps Open 6,700 Jobs

BRATISLAVA, August 12, (WEBNOVINY) – The contribution to support employment in the area of eliminating the impacts of floods helped crease 6,700 new jobs as of the end of this July. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs reported that labor offices register applications for subsidies to 7,300 jobs to date. The ministry went on to say that the parliament-approved amendment to the law on employment services extends the number of entities entitled to use the contribution. Among them are non-state organizations and large employers, who were originally able to draw the contribution for a limited number of people.

The ministry further reported that for instance the state-run forestry firm Lesy SR has employed 573 jobseekers in flood prevention works. Until the amendment to the law on employment services was enacted, the company was able to draw the subsidy for only seventy people. The company is able to hire over 300 people more now, thus a total of 900 jobseekers, the ministry added. The department estimates that approximately 10,000 jobs will be creased this way.

Parliament approved a new contribution to support employment in the area eliminating the impacts of floods in early September of last year. As of the end of 2010, 158 jobs were opened thanks to the support totaling EUR 453,500. Municipalities and corporate entities established by municipalities as well as administrators of economically important rivers are entitled to apply for it. The contribution is provided for up to six months and covers a portion of wage costs, in the volume of 95 percent of the total labor costs per employee, in the maximum volume of total wage costs calculated from a two-fold of the subsistence level.
