BRATISLAVA, December 9, (WEBNOVINY) – The gradual slowdown of employment growth in industry, which began in May 2011, continued in the tenth month of this year, when the indicator grew 3.1 percent y/y. The Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic reported that the number of employees grew most in ICT (+13.5 percent y/y). Employment further came up in selected market services (+5 percent) and transportation and storage (+1.5 percent). Then again, the indicator dropped the most in construction (-3.7 percent). Wholesale and accommodation saw an identical decrease of 0.1 percent.
Industry gave work to 499,400 people on average during the first ten months of this year when industrial manufacturing had 451,400 jobs. Construction sector reported 173,300 employees, retail sector 153,600 and selected market services 126,900. As many as 112,400 jobs were in transportation and storage, 94,700 in wholesale, 37,900 in ICT, 28,700 in pubs and restaurants, 21,000 in sale and repairs of motor vehicles and 9,400 in accommodation.
Employment in ICT grew 14 percent y/y in January-October period. Selected market services rose by 5.7 percent, industry by 4.5 percent, transport and storage by 1.5 percent, retail sector by 1 percent, while construction saw a 3.6-percent decline. The number of staff further dropped in accommodation (-1.2 percent), wholesale business (-0.6 percent), sale and repairs of motor vehicles (-0.5 percent) and pubs and restaurants (-0.1 percent).
