Court Dismisses Prosecutor General Election Complaint

KOSICE, February 8, (WEBNOVINY) – The Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic has turned down the complaint of parliamentary deputies for the opposition SMER-SD party. They argued that their constitutional rights were violated during performance of their deputy mandates in the secret ballot on prosecutor general in parliament on December 2 of last year.

The complaint was delivered to the Constitutional Court on December 3. A group of 55 deputies for the SMER-SD party, led by former prime minister Robert Fico, objected to violation of their fundamental rights and freedoms and the right to participate in administration of public affairs by means of a secret ballot on the prosecutor general, when some deputies made photos of their ballot papers with attached ID card of an MP, while some were coming to cast a ballot in couples, to have evidence of how they voted

According to information published on the Internet website of the court, the motion was debated in a non-public panel session. The panel ruled on rejection of the motion of the SMER-SD deputies arguing that it was lodged by an unauthorized person. It found it groundless, too.
