Consumer Confidence in Slovakia Remarkably Improves

BRATISLAVA, May 24, (WEBNOVINY) – Consumer sentiment in Slovakia considerably boosted over April. Based on a consumer barometer survey carried out by the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, the consumer confidence index surged 11.5 points from April to minus 20.8 points. “Concerns of inhabitants came down regarding all items while the most significant drop was recorded with the evaluation of prospects of the economic situation and unemployment in the country,” said the authority. Compared with the development three months ago consumer sentiment improved by 15 points and was nine points higher from a year ago.

Compared with the previous month, the situation improved with each of the monitored indicators. The improvement of over 15 points was seen with the expected development of unemployment and economic situation in Slovakia while the expected savings of households, the current economic situation in the country and the expected financial situation of households improved by over 5 points.

Compared with last December, 10 of the 15 monitored indicators showed a positive result. The difference regarding the expected development of unemployment and estimated development of the economic situation in Slovakia exceeded 20 points. The indicator of the expected inflation rate moved by over 10 points and the evaluation of the expected development of financial situation of households surged more than 5 points. Almost all of the 15 monitored indicators improved in y/y terms. The evaluation of the current economic situation was the only indicator to worsen.
