BRATISLAVA, April 15, (WEBNOVINY) – Boban Stojiljkovic, who acquired Slovak citizenship in 2004, is conspicuous of collaboration with wanted Serbian drug baron Darko Saric. “He formally fulfilled all prerequisites,” said Natalia Hattalova of the Slovak Interior Ministry. Serbian Blic daily wrote that, together with another two alleged narcotics mafia figures, Stojiljkovic has been arrested at the border between Serbia and Macedonia. All three have been charged with attempted smuggling of almost a ton of cocaine which was probably a part of a two-ton shipment, seized in Uruguay.
After Stojiljkovic acquired Slovak citizenship, the Interior Ministry received anonymous information on him. “Later, based on this anonymous indication, we found out that this person never was a [Slovak] resident, that he probably is a war criminal from the civil war in Serbia and that the foreign police stance on granting Slovak citizenship was forged,” said Hattalova. The ministry also pointed out that once a person obtains Slovak citizenship, it is impossible to revoke it. However, according to the current law, Stojiljkovic has never become a Slovak citizen, as his citizenship was acquired based on forged documents and without knowledge of facts that might have had substantial influence on the decision-making on the state citizenship but were withheld by the applicant. The tougher legislation came into effect in 2005 in order to prevent cases similar to this one from repeating.
Blic wrote that Darko Saric also possessed Slovak passport in the past; he acquired it in 2006, also through a fraud. His citizenship is considered nonexistent as well.
