Next year, Slovenske Elektarne will once again help to lower electricity prices for households. They are going to provide power electricity to homes at capped prices. In the case of next year’s gas and heat prices, the government will rely on subsidies from the state budget and EU funds. „The European Commission has promised to help us find ways to use unspent EU funds earmarked for Slovakia. As soon as they finish their summer holidays in Brussels, we will resume the dialogue at the end of August. If necessary, I will travel to Brussels every week to look for ways to finance energy assistance to take as much pressure off our public finances as possible,“ said Economy Minister Denisa Sakova.

Slovak households have guaranteed prices for electricity, gas and heat until the end of 2025. For 2026, the Ministry of Economy has prepared several scenarios of targeted energy assistance. However, the final form of the targeted aid will be decided by the government.

According to Minister Sakova, it was necessary to automatically add apartment numbers to the address register for more than 1.1 million apartments out of almost 2 million Slovak households when planning the energy assistance. It was also necessary to link 223 databases from suppliers and distributors of commodities and to process more than 3,000 files from the cadastre, as well as from health insurance companies, social insurance companies, the financial administration, and other institutions. According to the minister, the key for determining the beneficiaries of the aid will be mainly the household income and their energy consumption. „The greatest emphasis will be placed on vulnerable groups such as pensioners, single-parent families, or disabled citizens. At the same time, the system prepared in this way will be able to be used for any assistance in the future,“ Sakova said.
