EU Commissioner responsible for the Energy Union, Maros Sefcovic, says that the European Commission fully respects the sovereignty over energy mix. Renewables should be built in suitable places.
The Energy Union will have no influence on Slovakia’s focus on nuclear energy. “We realize the importance of the Energy Union. However, member states should have the choice of their energy mix,“ Economy Minister, Peter Ziga, told at the press conference which was the part of the conference Strategic Energy Technology Plan 2016 – Central European Energy Conference X. Ziga believes that there are currently more pressing issues that need to be solved than the production of nuclear energy in EU countries. “It is 50/50 in the European Union. It means that a half of the countries support nuclear energy. There are some countries that have no plans to generate nuclear energy. “The European Commission fully respects the sovereignty over energy mix. We try to integrate the sovereignty into our mutual effort to achieve high climatic goals. We want to build solar panels in places where they will provide the most benefits and wind parks where weather conditions allow it,” stated Maros Sefcovic, EU Commissioner responsible for the Energy Union.
