The third unit of the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant reached the minimum controlled output on Saturday, October 22. A controlled nuclear fission chain reaction is already taking place in the reactor of the third unit, although the reactor power is very close to zero. „This is a very important milestone in the commissioning of the nuclear reactor. It is the moment when the nuclear fuel in the reactor came to life, and we are bringing the reactor to life. It is expected to reach full power at the beginning of 2023,“ said Director General of Slovenske Elektrarne Branislav Strycek. “Today we are starting the physical start-up tests and bringing the reactor to power. The first start-up of the reactor involves complex tests, in which all characteristics of the reactor core are verified in real conditions,“ added the director of the Mochovce power plant, Martin Mraz.
