U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia Visits the Village of Kechnec

KOSICE, May 3, (WEBNOVINY) — On Tuesday, U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia Theodore Sedgwick visited the village of Kechnec in Kosice district, eastern Slovakia. The ambassador was in particular interested in the village’s development concept, completed as well as underway projects. He met with employees of the social and health care center, greeted employees of the local kindergarten where children learn also English language. Kechnec mayor Jozef Konkoly presented also the plan of revitalization of the village’s center to the ambassador. “I am glad that Theodore Sedgwick has grown fond of Kechnec and in spite of his busy schedule is interested in the village’s life. I appreciate that and believe that we will continue to develop our good relations,” Konkoly stated.

Since becoming an independent municipality in 1990, Kechnec has improved significantly the quality of life of its residents. Complete infrastructure has been built, along with a professional sports center, a social and health care center, a congress hall, a modern 40-unit apartment building, and a community center. The village is working on the project of an integrated European school, a water park, and further revitalization of the center, among others.

The Kechnec industrial park is generally considered one of the best parks equipped to welcome investors in Slovakia. Over the last six year, sixteen Slovak and foreign investors started developing their projects there. Since its establishment, the park has attracted investments worth almost 500 million euros and created 2,500 direct jobs, with a potential of as many as 30,000 jobs over the next ten years. The area of the park is 332 hectares.
