Slovakia's June Foreign Trade Surplus Revised to EUR 193.5M

BRATISLAVA, September 8, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia’s trade balance in June posted a surplus of EUR 193.5 million. The Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic revised downward the original trade balance figure for the sixth month by EUR 13.5 million. In June, total exports went up 13.1 percent to EUR 4.747 billion compared with the same period a year ago. Imports swelled 12.2 percent to EUR 4.554 billion as of late June. According to revised data, the January-June trade balance was positive EUR 822.3 million.

Slovakia had the highest active balance with Germany of EUR 1.229 billion in H1. Next was Austria with EUR 1.135 billion and the Czech Republic with a surplus of EUR 1.065 billion. On the other hand, Slovakia reported the widest trade gap with Russia of EUR 2.037 billion.

Goods worth EUR 27.494 billion were exported from Slovakia in the January-June period, up 20.8 percent y/y. Considering the structure of goods, exports of passenger cars and other vehicles for passenger transport went up the most, by EUR 1.082 billion. Exports of monitors, projectors, and TV sets dropped the most, by EUR 276.5 million, and exports of components of devices for transmission of radio or TV broadcasting dropped by EUR 202.9 million. With regard to Slovakia’s most important trade partners, exports to Germany went up 28.4 percent and to the Czech Republic by 23.6 percent. Exports to France swelled by 16.2 percent.

In H1, imports climbed to EUR 26.672 billion, up 20.7 percent y/y. With regard to the structure of imported goods, imports of crude oils and oils from raw bitumen minerals swelled by EUR 571.3 million, while imports of motor vehicle parts, components and accessories by EUR 535.1 million. Considering most important trade partners, imports from Germany went up 21.7 percent, from Russia 43.5 percent and from the Czech Republic 20.2 percent.
