Slovakia's Construction Output in January Dropped 0.8 % Y/Y

BRATISLAVA, March 8, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovakia’s construction output in January 2011 reported a y/y decline of 0.8 percent to EUR 258.5 million. Net of seasonal influences, the construction output dwindled 2.6 percent from December 2010, informed the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic on Tuesday.

Construction output carried out by firms in Slovakia reached EUR 252.4 million in January, down 0.8 percent y/y. Its portion on overall construction output remained at the last year’s level of 97.6 percent. The development of the local production was influenced by a drop in construction of new buildings, including modernization and remodeling by 6.1 percent. Its portion on local production represented 75 percent, down 4.3 points from the same period a year ago. Repairs and maintenance works fell 10.3 percent to 20.8 percent, and their portion on the overall output increased 0.9 points to 20.8 percent.

Works on infrastructure dropped 10.3 percent and construction works on buildings rose 1.1 percent in the monitored period. In terms of local construction output, construction works on buildings constituted 84.4 percent, and works on infrastructure made up 15.6 percent. Construction output realized abroad dwindled 1.8 percent y/y to EUR 6.1 million and contributed 2.4 percent to the overall output.

Construction output dropped last year 4.7 percent to EUR 5.535 billion in annual terms. Output reported by construction companies in December 2010 accounted for EUR 467.4 million, which was the same level versus the previous year.
