BRATISLAVA, July 19, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovak Foreign Minister Mikulas Dzurinda is prepared to offer a helping hand to Ukraine in the area of reforms. “Ukraine faces serious decisions as well, many reform steps have been taken but this autumn and winter could and maybe should be important for Ukraine concerning its meeting conditions for concluding an association agreement,” Dzurinda said at the Monday sessions of the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council and General Affairs Council in Brussels on Monday. He underscored that Slovakia intends to do all in its power to help Ukraine on its path of reforms and democratization by sharing its experiences with Kiev and also by developing other activities.

At the sitting of the General Affairs Council the ministers dealt with the developments in the Middle East and expectations linked with the United Nations General Assembly. Various scenarios were discussed while the first, the optimistic and preferred one is seeking for understanding in the Middle East and striking a wide accord accepted by both sides. The ministers however wish that at least the second scenario was successful and all 27 member countries find common ground.

High on the agenda of the ministers’ talks with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen was the development in Afghanistan regarding the handover of power, in Pakistan and other countries of the region. On Sunday, the long-promised transition to control of Afghanistan’s own security started.
