BRATISLAVA, November 24, (WEBNOVINY) — The Slovak government should decide on whether Slovakia will ask the European Commission for assistance from the European Globalization Adjustment Fund in the near future. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs opines that Slovakia currently meets eligibility criteria for assistance from this fund in several sectors and regions. “It has been suggested that the process of elaboration of the application for the assistance be started in the sector of electric equipment production in the region of western Slovakia since a substantial number of laid-off employees are assumed to reintegrate there and higher efficiency of the whole project may be accomplished,” stated the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in the material, which it has submitted for interdepartmental review.
The project should comprise support to self-employment, labor and geographic mobility, preservation of professional skills or stimuli for integration on the labor market and together 834 persons from the sector of production of electric equipment should participate in it. The Ministry of Labor expects overall costs on implementation of this project to reach EUR 3.88 million. “If the application for the assistance is approved, sources drawn from the state budget are expected to exceed EUR 1.68 million,” writes the ministry. It has also warned that if the application for the assistance is turned down, Slovakia will have to bear the costs on implementation of this project in full.
The material states that Slovakia meets eligibility criteria for submission of an application for assistance from the European Globalization Adjustment Fund, which is at least 500 laid-off employees due to redundancy over nine months, especially in small and medium-sized companies in a number of sectors. “Since a combination or accumulation of individual sectors is not allowed, the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family SR suggests submission of an application for assistance for the sector of production of electric equipment in the region of western Slovakia. This sector has also been suggested on account of the highest number of laid-off employees over the monitored period, which will facilitate accomplishment of higher effectiveness of the project,” assumes the ministry.
