BRATISLAVA, August 24, (WEBNOVINY) — The Economy Ministry regards Vietnam as a perspective and interesting trade partner. “Besides achieving significant export growth to restore the trade balance, Slovak entrepreneurs also seek more involvement in development projects in Vietnam, for example in construction of industrial parks and infrastructure and in the nuclear power sector,” said Economy Minister Juraj Miskov after meeting with Vietnamese ambassador to Slovakia Nguyen Xuan Luu.
The Vietnamese ambassador said that Slovak companies have now more opportunities to establish a foothold in areas that the Vietnamese government considers priority areas with regard to effective inflow of foreign investments. These areas include agriculture production and processing of agricultural, forest, sea, and fish products, application of state-of-the-art hi-tech and information technologies, important industrial equipment and projects localized in mountainous and remote areas. “New opportunities for cooperation in the economic sector should be defined at the first meeting of the Slovak-Vietnamese commission for the economic cooperation that should take place in November of this year,” informed the Economy Ministry.
Slovakia exported to Vietnam goods and services worth EUR 3.4 million in the first four months of this year while import totaled EUR 58.1 million in the monitored period. Export amounted to EUR 9.6 million last year and goods and services valued at EUR 149.8 million were imported. “Vietnam still cannot be included among Slovakia’s main export territories despite the immense potential of the Vietnamese market with a population 87 million,” concluded the Economy Ministry.
