SEPS Has No Plans to Couple Slovak Grid with Austria

BRATISLAVA, February 15, (WEBNOVINY) — The transmission grid operator SEPS does not plan to couple the Slovak network with Austria’s grid. There are no such plans for the future, either. “We are not considering construction of new power lines on the basis of a cross-border profile with Austria within the current development plan, i.e., roughly until 2027,” SEPS stipulates in its current Development Plan. Slovakia plans to gradually foster the coupling of its network with other neighboring states.

Austria and Slovakia cooperated in two projects to couple their power lines in the past. The first scheme counted on construction of a power line between Stupava and Vienna and the second project worked with a concept of a power line from Podunajske Biskupice to Vienna but the Austrian transmission operator labeled both of them unfeasible in terms of their environmental impact. The failure of the Austrian partner to fulfill its commitments marred those projects, according to SEPS.
