BRATISLAVA, February 1, (WEBNOVINY) – Organizers of Gorilla protest marches scheduled for Friday can ask the police authorities for cooperation, Police Vice President Lubomir Abel told the media on Wednesday, adding that the police would be helpful and would do no maneuvers. According to Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic they have information on provocateurs who could disturb the peaceful course of demonstrations and discredit their organizers.

“The protesters and the police are on one ship. Both the police and the protesters want the law to be binding for everyone,” emphasize the minister. According to Lipsic, the police will protect constitutional rights of the citizens: the right to gather peacefully and freedom of speech. Those who would be interested in gathering peacefully will be protected by the police, he underlined.

The minister also informed that partial information on investigating the Gorilla case will be available after several weeks. Their character will make sweeping them under the carpet impossible and they will probably be provided to the media.

At last Friday’s Gorilla demonstration, several hundred protesters breached through police barricades and made it to the parliament entrance throwing bananas and eggs at the building. The police did not intervene. Minister Lipsic considers such non-acting adequate; he did not comment throwing bananas and eggs as they pose no threat of damage. Next protests are scheduled for this Friday, February 3 and should take place in Bratislava and at least five more cities. Several thousand people plan to attend according to the event’s Facebook page.
