BRATISLAVA, June 8, (WEBNOVINY)- Opposition parties do not know how to consolidate public funds, said Prime Minister Robert Fico in response to their reaction to his call for submitting proposals for recovery of public funds. According to the prime minister, the majority of proposals submitted to the Cabinet by the opposition may not be quantified, is practically unrealizable or contains unreal calculations of incomes.

“They do not have a clue what to do,” Fico reacted on Friday on the opposition proposals. According to him, KDH’s proposals are fictional, while nothing but reduction of social contributions can be carried out. However, KDH calculated the saving at EUR 200 million this way, which according to the prime minister would mean that families with monthly income of EUR 1,500 would no longer be entitled to social benefits. To this, the governing SMER-SD party strongly opposes. In response to the proposal of the liberal SaS party to provide experts Jozef Kollar and Jozef Mihal for presenting the proposals to the Cabinet, Fico said that the Finance Ministry’s Financial Policy Institute was unable to quantify cutbacks in public spending based on provision of the experts.

The prime minister evaluated the proposals of MOST-HID and SDKU-DS as most constructive. However, these proposals would not bring the planned consolidation of EUR 300 million this year and EUR 1.5 billion next year. Nonetheless, Fico is willing to further discuss with the opposition their proposals and invited representatives of the opposition for roundtable talks. KDH leader Jan Figel has accepted the invitation. He, however, expects a fair debate with the objective to find serious solutions instead of a theatrical performance.
