Meteorologists Issue Weather Warning for Sunday

BRATISLAVA, July 24, (WEBNOVINY) — The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) issued a level one weather warning for central and eastern Slovakia for Sunday from 03:00 to 18:00. During expected storms on Sunday, meteorologists expect torrential rain with accumulated rainfall of 30-50 millimeters per square meter. „This level of rainfall poses a potential danger for human activities. The presumed accumulated rainfall and its intensity are quite usual for this time of year, but they can still cause some damages, “ writes the national weather service on its Internet website.

The authority also issued level one hydrological warning for Sunday for the south of central and eastern Slovakia. This concerns the rivers Hron, Ipel, Slana. From Sunday 6:00 in the morning until further notice there is danger of floods due to continual rain „With regard to expected heavy rainfall and saturation of river basins, we assume water levels will rise; we expect levels to be achieved for the announcement of flooding activity,“ the national weather service warns.

Warning against flash floods was issued for the east of the country from Sunday from 3:00 to 19:00 on smaller creeks and some rivers, among them the rivers Poprad, Torysa, Hornad, Hnilec, and Bodrog.
