Information Campaign Intensifies Prior to May Census

BRATISLAVA, February 17, (WEBNOVINY) –The Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic will inform on this year’s census of citizens, houses, and flats also in TV and radio spots and spots broadcast in the selected shopping malls. Spots will be used only in the last phase of the campaign, a few weeks before the census. Despite the census being an event of the decade for the Statistics Office, it has a tight budget of EUR 450,000 for the campaign. Citizens should find all relevant information also on billboards, ads and posters in public transportation means.

The first phase of the information campaign began in May of last year, when the Statistics Office started publishing first information on the census. At the beginning of this year, the office started informing about the protection of the provided statistical data. In the next phase, planned for February and April, it will focus on information related to selection of count commissioners, their duties, and information on possibility to complete the census via Internet.

The Statistics Office is preparing to launch the website www.scitanie2011.sk where e-census will be possible. It will provide also relevant information, FAQ and answers, informed Zuzana Stukovska of the Statistics Office.

The 2011 census of people and their homes will cost approximately EUR 30.6 million, which is about EUR 5.64 per capita. The biggest volume will be paid for wages of census commissioners The first results will be made public in the fall of 2011, and will be gradually completed. Complex results are to be known in March 2014 at the latest.
