Industrial Production in June Grew Less than 5 Pct

BRATISLAVA, August 9, (WEBNOVINY)- The growth rate of industrial production in Slovakia decelerated in June. According to data from the Statistics Office, industrial production in Slovakia in the sixth month increased year-on-year by 4.9 percent, compared with 10.7 percent in May. The dynamics of Slovakia’s industrial output was thus slowest in June since November 2009. when the period of crisis-caused y/y falls came to its end. On average for the first half of 2011, industrial production rose 9.8 percent. The June slowdown is attributable to 14.4 percent y/y drop in supply of energies. However, also industrial manufacturing slowed from 13.9 percent in May to 8.5 percent. Y/y dynamics of mining and extraction did not change from May remaining at 11.2 percent.

Production in the Slovak industry continues its growth from last year, when it recovered after the downturn in 2009. While in 2009, industrial production fell due to a slump in foreign demand resulting from the economic crisis by 13.7 percent, last year it returned to double-digit growth. On average for the full year 2010, growth of industrial production reached 18.9 percent when all sectors have grown except for production of coke and petroleum products.
