ICT Remains the Best Paying Sector in Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, August 10, (WEBNOVINY) — A report of the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic released on Wednesday shows that the highest average nominal monthly wage in the first six months of this year was in the information and communication sector at 1,639 euros. The average nominal monthly wage in selected market services was 803 euros, 799 euros in industry and 732 euros in wholesale. The average nominal monthly wage in the distribution and repairs of motor vehicles represented 717 euros, in transport and storage 696 euros, in construction 577 euros, in accommodation 549 euros, in the retail sector 542 euros, and in restaurants and pubs 356 euros.

Compared with the same period one year ago, the average wage grew most in the ICT sector by 5.8 percent. In selected market services, the wage increased by 5.7 percent, in construction by 4.5 percent, in industry by 3.5 percent, and in the distribution and repairs of motor vehicles by 2 percent. The retail sector saw a growth in the average wage of 1.3 percent, wholesale of 0.8 percent, accommodation of 0.7 percent, and transport and storage of 0.3 percent. The average nominal wage in pubs and restaurants rose 0.3 percent, too.

On average for the first six months of this year, the real monthly wage in selected market services grew by two percent and in information and communication activities by 2.1 percent. On the other hand, real wages dropped in restaurants and pubs as well as in transport and storage by an equal 3.2 percent, in accommodation by 2.8 percent, in the wholesale sector by 2.7 percent, in retail by 2.2 percent, in distribution and repairs of motor vehicles by 1.5 percent, and in industry by 0.1 percent.

In June alone, the average nominal monthly wage rose in the ICT sector by 9.1 percent y/y, in selected market services by 6.4 percent, in industry by 2.1 percent, in the distribution and repairs of motor vehicles by 0.7 percent, in accommodation by 0.5 percent, and in restaurants and pubs by 0.3 percent. The average nominal wage dropped in transport and storage 0.5 percent, which was 0.3 percent in wholesale .

The real monthly wage in June grew the most in the ICT sector, up 5 percent. In selected market services, the growth represented 2.4 percent, in construction 1.4 percent. The real wage dropped in transport and storage by 4.2 percent, in wholesale by 4 percent, in retail by 3.6 percent, in restaurants and pubs by 3.5 percent, in accommodation by 3.3 percent, in distribution and repairs of motor vehicles by 3.1 percent and in industry by 1.7 percent.
