Gas Supplies will not be Limited, assures SPP

BRATISLAVA, February 3, (WEBNOVINY) – Gas supplies from Russia were lower by some 36 percent on Friday morning, reported gas utility Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel (SPP). In spite of the cut, SPP assures it is able to supply gas to its clients — households, small enterprises and large-scale industrial clients – without limitations. SPP spokesperson Peter Bednar added that the gas utility was withdrawing more gas from underground storage facilities in Slovakia to compensate for the curtailed supply.

“SPP supplies gas to its clients including over 1.3 million homes also from underground storage capacities even during standard winter because daily consumption always is higher than the daily supply to SPP based on the long-term contract. On an average winter day, SPP supplies some 60 percent from the daily delivery and 40 percent from reservoirs,” the company elucidated. Current extreme freezing temperatures increase consumption by some 20 percent and since Russia trims supplies, SPP must withdraw more gas from reservoirs. The volume more than doubled. SPP emphasized that the Regulatory Office for Network Industries illogically refused to include cost of gas storage into eligible cost for households.
