Foreign Minister Lajcak Pays Official Visit to Serbia

BRATISLAVA, May 24, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovakia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak is the first foreign politician to pay an official visit to Serbia following the recent presidential and parliamentary elections in the country. Belgrade on Thursday hosted talks of the Slovak minister with newly-elected Serbian president and leader of the Progressive Party Tomislav Nikolic, first Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, who also stands at the helm of the Socialist Party of Serbia, Defense Minister and Deputy Chairman of Democratic Party Dragan Sutanovac and last but not least with his counterpart Vuk Jeremic.

Lajcak recommended that Serbia dedicate more attention to the OSCE report to rectify the shortcomings it mentions. The minister expressed support for Serbia’s accession to the EU. “We are ready for constructive cooperation with you and to share our experience if desired,” he announced. He emphasized that the fulfillment of the required criteria fully rested with the country. Lajcak spoke out in favor of ongoing dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and the implementation of already attained agreements.

The head of Slovak diplomacy praised the course of presidential, parliamentary, local and provincial elections in Serbia. He recommended an early appointment of head of state and formation of government and parliament. Lajcak and his Serbian partner Vuk Jeremic debated these matters as well as the development of Slovak-Serbian ties, with both of them praising the bilateral cooperation as excellent.
