Consumer Confidence in Slovakia Keeps Worsening

BRATISLAVA, November 21, (WEBNOVINY) – Consumer sentiment in Slovakia deteriorated in October. Based on a consumer barometer survey carried out by the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, the consumer confidence index dropped 5.2 points from September to minus 30.1 points, representing the fourth decline in a row. As a result, consumer mood in Slovakia is now the worst since March 2011.

People became more pessimistic regarding all components of the index, more significantly in expected economic development, employment and outlooks for households’ savings. As the Statistics Office noted, concerns over anticipated development of financial situation of households intensified partly, as well. Consumer confidence in the observed period deteriorated 1.8 points from a year ago and 8.2 points in quarterly terms. Citizens were more pessimistic also compared to the long-term average.

In a monthly comparison, only one of the twelve indicators improved, namely the conditions for savings in Slovakia. The monthly change in attitude toward buying major household items remained below one point, while the ten remaining indicators saw a decline. Expected development of the local economy and unemployment, estimated price development and prospects of savings lost over 5 points.
