BRATISLAVA, December 27, (WEBNOVINY) — The 2011 census of the population, houses, and apartments, which will take place in May, will among others show how many people really live in Bratislava. For the first time, the Statistics Office will examine not only the place of permanent residence, but also the place of usual residence – where people spend most of the year and where they usually spend their day or night rest.
“With the current trend, when people in fact live somewhere completely different than is the place where they have their permanent residence, this indicator should help to find the real number of residents of individual towns and cities and of the EU member states,” told Zuzana Stukovska from the Statistics Office to SITA news agency. The information on the actual place of residence should avoid counting one person as a resident of more cities or states and should help finding out the real number of citizens of Slovakia. This information could, according to Stukovska, be also useful for municipalities, which are financed according to the number of citizens with a permanent residence there.
The census of the population, houses, and apartments will take place on May 21, 2011. It will cost approximately 30.6 million euro, which equals 5.64 euro per citizen. The first results are expected in fall 2011, complex official results will probably be known before March 2014.
