Carmakers Continue Keeping Industry's Growth Pace High

BRATISLAVA, October 9, (WEBNOVINY) — The growth pace of the Slovak industry remained high also in August. As the Statistics Office informed, industrial output in August, net of the influence of the number of working days, grew 17 percent, a slowdown of 1.5 percentage points from July. The development in August was affected by a rise in industrial manufacturing by 19.6 percent and in supply of energies by 3.4 percent. On the contrary, output slipped in mining and extraction by 5.4 percent. In monthly terms net of seasonal influences, industrial production in August went up by 0.4 points from July.

Similarly as in the past months, Slovak industry was driven by car production in August. The annual increase in overall industrial output in the eighth month is mostly attributable to production of transport means that went up 77.2 percent, down 6.7 percentage points from July. Following weak performance in the previous months, production of pharmaceutical industry posted a significant growth as well going up 84.4 percent. Production of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere grew, too, coming up 14 percent. Output of metals and metal structures other than machinery and equipment rose 3.2 percent and in production of computers, electronic and optical products the growth was 3.8 percent. The volume of output came down with coke and refined crude oil products by 12.4 percent while other production, repair and installation of machines and equipment went down by 8.5 percent.
