April Survey Shows SMER-SD Would Win Elections

BRATISLAVA, May 19, (WEBNOVINY) — According to a recent survey of political preferences, had parliamentary elections in Slovakia taken place in April, the winner would be the opposition SMER-SD party with 47 percent of all votes and could govern alone, without a coalition partner. The survey was conducted from March 28 to April 24 by Median SK on a sample of 1,112 respondents aged 18 to 79. Compared to the situation a month earlier, SMER-SD preferences have risen by almost 4 percentage points from 43.2 percent. Three of the ruling coalition parties have lost voters, the fourth has grown only slightly: SDKU-DS would end up second with 15.7 percent, compared to 17.1 percent in March. KDH would score third with 9.9 percent, losing only 0.2 percent compared to the previous survey, followed by SaS with 7.7 percent, compared to 9.9 in March. Opposition SNS also lost 0.2 percent and would score 5.7 percent. The last party to get into the parliament would be MOST-HID with 5.3 percent votes (5.3 in March). Ethnic Hungarian party SMK would get 2.1 percent votes, which is a slight improvement compared to 1.5 percent in March. Still, they would get even less votes than once strongest party in Slovakia, LS-HZDS, which also improved its position from previous month’s 3.7 to 4.2 percent.
