BRATISLAVA, August 23, (WEBNOVINY) — In the village Dezghinja in the autonomous region of Gagauzia, the driest part of Moldova, artesian wells were reconstructed and a new water conduit was built thanks to the Slovak development aid, informed Daniel Draxler, the director of the non-governmental organization ADRA which carried out the project. Dezghinja is located in the southern part of Moldova and has more than five thousand inhabitants. Before the Slovak project, approximately 700 from the total of 1,880 homes had direct access to the water main, which means to clean drinking water. Now, about 90 percent of the village population should have access to water.
Unused artesian wells, which were twenty years old, were cleaned and reconstructed, Draxler added, and new pumps were installed. The water will flow under pressure from the reservoirs to the larger part of the village through an eleven kilometers long water supply network. The total budget of the project was EUR 140,000. The project was realized in cooperation with ADRA Moldova, and construction works were provided by a local construction company. The project was also supported by the regional government of the Gagauzia autonomous region. After the transfer of the construction and technical part of the project, the local government still needs to solve the issue of necessary certificates and licenses needed for the usage of the system to supply inhabitants with drinking water, so that they can be connected to the system.
